Phoenix Farm
Learning Center supports the educational and vocational goals of
those who come here through democratic, peaceful processes. Its 29
acres of hayfields, barns and woods offer a wide variety of settings
for learning about our connection to the earth and for taking time to
reflect on our
personal goals and needs. We work with people of all ages because we
believe it is natural to learn from each other in multi-generational
communities.

This is a picture of Ed visiting a degree
confluence in Pennsylvania. A degree confluence is where whole
number latitude and longitude lines intersect. Our friend Alex
has instigated a project of visiting these places and taking pictures
there. See above link for more information. Ed is wearing a
felted hat made by Kate. Ed is the head librarian at Dublin
School, a private school in Dublin, NH. He loves maps, reading
and being outdoors.
Kate Kerman:
Kate is a mediator and
educator. She runs the peer mediation program at Keene High
School
in Keene, NH, and has helped 8 homeschooling high schoolers work on
high
school graduation. She practices Therapeutic Touch, a modern day
version of "laying on of hands" and loves helping young people figure
out
their path in life. Some poetry of Kate's

This picture is from 1999 but we love the way the animals all lined up for the picture. Photo by Lisa, who lived here then. Now we have:
6 sheep: Georgie, Rachael, Molly, Katie, Trinity and Ramses
1 goose
a small flock of Phoenix chickens: Achilles , Jake. Jake (a hen) is our oldest chicken, and still a tough as nails mother
a variety of other chickens, including Araucanas, Barred Rocks and Lakenvelders
4 ducks
thinking about a pig or two
a great blue heron visits our pond now and then
we see wild turkeys in our hayfields pretty often
deer tracks in the woods
hear coyotes howling sometimes
saw a moose print once
multitudes of chipmunks like to eat grain intended for our farm animals
a fox stops by to check on the chickens now and then
we've seen a fisher once and its tracks several times
garter snakes
lots of frogs and toads, none of them looking mutated that we've ever seen
Ed saw a brown bear crossing the road less than a quarter of a mile away
Hannah and Kate heard a mountain lion wailing in the back woods
We have had 21 different people living here with us in the past 8 "½" years, ranging in age from two months to 35 years old. 5 of them did high school homeschooling with us. All of them have worked on what to do with their gifts.
